Enter the brain of: ReMaC

ReMaC (reh-muh-see) is an eccentric developing talent hailing from Rotorua, New Zealand, now residing in Wellington. His upbeat personality exudes confidence and positive energy which all spills out into the music he creates. Being a Massey student, ReMaC has grown a strong local following for his captivating sound and his ability to strike up a conversation with every character in the room. We had the luxury of asking ReMaC a few questions about his music and life, and his answers were as inventive as expected:

What genre of music do you make?:

“The roots of my tunes rest in Hip Hop with a lyrical consciousness and a spice of life.”

What is your purpose in music?:

“I feel like your purpose always grows overtime, I've always felt a gravitation towards freedom and evolving to put it simply, but I've realised that being an artist gives you the gift to send a message to the world so I'm focusing on producing good energies to send them higher frequencies throughout the world but I know that if at least one person feels free, comfort or like a G tryna boss up listening to my tunes then I'm on path to the final answer.”

What steps are you taking to fulfill this purpose?:

“If I'm lying to myself, who am I fooling? If I'm lying to you, who am I pleasing?”

“Once you run out of catchy lines and quick rhymes in your brain you come to realise a lot. I connected the dots within my head that when out of touch with your raw and pure form of yourself the flow of my creations loses its authenticity. So during my journey of self-growth, understanding the true depths of my soul, brain, and body are imperitive to consider on a daily basis to establish a foundation.”

What do you struggle with?:

“To keep it a hunnid, most of what I've ever done or do has some sort of pressure under it. I love the feeling of not knowing if I will actually fly cause it helps me grow beyond my imagination. I ain’t perfect though, I still kill a flower before giving it water if the right person says its a bad crop. Even though there’s a whole process to creating a single song, one of the hardest steps for me is usually the starting line/phrase.”

What inspired you to start making music?:

“It was something as small as a buzz while freestyling. The freedom, joy and fun it feeds you in the moments of the flow state are enough of an inspiration to make a fiend go to rehab. At that very moment, I asked one of my closest Gs if he believed I could be a rapper. His response ignited the spark which blew the roof. Over time learning more about my own family roots within music sparked a new flare within the air. Although I never always understood my Dad, we clicked within the music realm. I'm bound to cross paths with someone on the same mission as myself so instead of creating negativity towards this, I understand them, grow with them and gather inspiration amongst them.”

How have your life experiences influenced your music?:

“As I grew I adapted to others' vibes and altered my own beliefs at times to fit in only till I realised where this had led me. At this point in my life, I didn't know who I was but since that day, I knew I would and it would be reflected wherever I choose to excel.”

What makes you, you?:

“Every little detail all the way to me falling out the window as a kid, I find life more enjoyable when I believe that every little hole and hill leads me to the present. I was raised in an environment where my Ma believed I would be a Kapa Haka leader, Rugby player, and a Musician. The essence within this growth built a foundation for boundless imagination. On this quest to build myself, I've been able to tune into an energy as if I'm supported by a higher vibration. This essence is what I have been focusing on tapping into to produce the purest and rawest form of art I can.”

What recent discoveries have influenced your trajectory?

“Over the years I've come to my own conclusion that the music I create is overdue for an evolution. The culture my music aligns with is going through a drought of uniquity, maybe it's the substance? Maybe it's the Autotune? What I do know is that I don't, so I’ll find a way to demonstrate instead. I've taken it upon myself to nurture the essence of personal musical experiences fusing elements from all the genres such as Soul, R&B, Jazz, and Funk, and developing a fusion of new energies and vibrations. One thing for sure is there's a lot more associated with Frequency, Vibration, and Energy.”

“As time flies by I slowly realise that life ain't as simple as birds and butterflies, pixels to a picture slowly appear, but I can't fully envision what I can't see clear.“
